Renewable energy and sustainable development initiatives of the Municipal Government of Paranas were among the key points discussed during today’s flag-raising ceremony.

In her message, Municipal Mayor Elvira Babalcon reminded everyone to be more mindful of their energy consumption and shared the municipality’s continuing efforts to transition toward cleaner and more sustainable energy.

She highlighted the support of the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities (ICSC), particularly in the solarization of the Municipal Hall, as well as the partnerships, workshops, and other activities that have helped the municipality move forward with its renewable energy initiatives.

Mayor Babalcon also shared that Paranas’ efforts are now being looked into by other local governments. The Municipality of Rosario, Northern Samar, recently benchmarked Paranas’ solarized Municipal Hall and other local practices as it explores similar initiatives.

ICSC is also in Paranas today for the “Localizing Energy Transition: Empowering Local Governments to Co-Create the Renewable Energy Roadmap” multi-stakeholder consultation. The activity brings together local stakeholders to discuss practical steps toward a renewable energy roadmap for Paranas.

The municipality’s journey toward cleaner energy continues through practical initiatives, strong partnerships, and shared learning. As Paranas takes these steps, its experience is also showing what local governments can do to make renewable energy a part of everyday governance and community development.
