Moving one step closer to expanding local access to higher education, the Northwest Samar State University (NWSSU) successfully conducted entrance examinations for its proposed Paranas extension class on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.
Held at the eco-friendly facility in Barangay Concepcion, the examination gathered 31 aspiring students eager to enroll in Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Major in Horticulture program.
The establishment of this extension class is a joint initiative of the Provincial Government of Samar, NWSSU, and the Paranas LGU. Following the recent site inspection by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the LGU and its partners facilitated the exams to ensure students are fully prepared for enrollment upon the program’s official opening.

Another batch of aspiring students took the Northwest Samar State University (NWSSU) entrance examination for the proposed Paranas extension class on Monday, August 24.
The second batch had 26 examinees from Paranas, Hinabangan, Calbiga, and San Jose de Buan. This follows the first batch of 31 examinees who took the examination earlier this month, for a total of 57 examinees so far.
The proposed extension class will offer the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Major in Horticulture program, giving students from nearby municipalities an opportunity to pursue agricultural studies closer to home.
The initiative is a joint effort of the Provincial Government of Samar, NWSSU, and the Local Government Unit of Paranas under Project SAMAR, as preparations continue for the opening of the proposed program.
